Vintage Potters Shed

A few months ago a cute friend of mine,  Christine Ishmael, asked me to help her out with a project she was working on for the Salt Lake Home and Garden show.  She was  decorating a shed built by the Wright Shed company in a vintage potters shed theme.   It was a really fun project and I think the finished shed was just dreamy.  Literally,  I have been daydreaming about owning,  decorating and playing in that shed ever since.  It is basically a playhouse for a grown up and I need one!  The vision and planning was completely Christine's so it was more than generous for her to share a little of the credit with me,  especially when I didn't do much but drool and daydream.  Here are some pictures for your daydreaming pleasure.....

From the cute little dormer window to the custom pallet wood flooring this shed is perfection from top to bottom.

Get down to some dirty work planting and planning at this sweet little desk.  I adore the cubby!  Or daydream with a good book on the vintage garden bench.  The cute bench is mine,  but Christine gave it a little face lift with a custom mix of paint from her paint line,  The Vintage Bee Paint Company.   She called it "Patina" - I call it perfection!

Lets start at the very beginning ( A very good place to start).

How did my adoration, love, (dare I say obsession) with vintage begin?  I've been asked this question a lot.  There is no simple explanation, why do any of us love what we love? Don't you think us humans have a natural propensity to collect things.  No longer dependent on hunting and gathering for survival we drag home that which makes us happy, or gives us comfort.

For me objects from the past are the ties that bind.  Not just to dearly departed family but to the human race. We are all connected and what better way to make that connection that with something you can use in your home everyday. I am in love with the hopeless romance of all it all, these relics from the past and the lives they have lived. When I sit down to dinner with my family at an 80 year old farm table my imagination will sometimes run wild,  all the dinners that have been eaten there, prayers of gratitude offered,  homework penciled, bills lamented but paid, comfort in a cup offered to a friend. Its not that I am fixated on the past.  I love the thought of these objects with a new life firmly in the present. A beautiful rebirth where something discarded is used and loved and appreciated. Did I mention I am a hopeless romantic?

I also think my family genetics have combined to create a perfect storm. I blame my father,  sentimental dreamer of dreams that he is, and his mother lover of pretty things. On the flip side my mom is quite practical and her parents are very thrifty.  End result: a garage full of pretty yet practical vintage furniture that I got at a steal of a deal due to my thrifty capabilities, every piece of which I have a sentimental attachment to.  And that's the story.

That garage has gotten so full I started my own vintage business:  Vintagehart,  so I can share the love with you all.  I buy and sell a little bit of everything; furniture, housewares and collectibles.   You can find items for sale on facebook and etsy.  This is my place to share (and brag, I love to gloat about my amazing finds).  So stay tuned for fun before and afters, and tutorials.
